ChatGPT Pro 500 Explained: Pro 200 Returns, Pricing, Usage Limits & Ultrafast

Just days after GPT-6 Astra launched, OpenAI paused new sign-ups and upgrades for its $200 ChatGPT Pro 20X plan. Less than three weeks later, the Pro lineup changed again.

Following OpenAI DevDay 2026, Pro 200 is open to new subscribers again, but the included usage is no longer the same as the old Pro 20X plan. At the same time, OpenAI introduced a new top-tier option: ChatGPT Pro 500, priced at $500 per month and offering access to GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast in ChatGPT Work and Codex.

So this is more than just another, more expensive Pro tier. The return of Pro 200 changes the value of the old 20X plan, while Pro 500 adds a new level of usage and speed that did not exist before.

Here is what changed, how the new Pro plans compare, and who Pro 500 actually makes sense for.

1. ChatGPT Pro 200 Is Back: What the Pro Lineup Looks Like Now

First, the headline update: ChatGPT Pro 200 is available for new subscriptions again at $200 per month.

What came back, however, is not the same Pro 20X plan OpenAI was offering before the pause.

The original Pro 20X included roughly 20 times the usage of ChatGPT Plus. OpenAI has since adjusted the included usage for new Pro 200 subscriptions. Its current documentation describes the new plan as having a “lower usage allowance” without publishing a new fixed multiplier.

That leaves two different groups of Pro 200 users:

With Pro 500 now added to the lineup, ChatGPT has three personal Pro price points:

The three Pro tiers share many of the same core features, including advanced models, Codex, Deep Research, image generation, Memory, and file uploads. The biggest differences are now how much included usage you get and how fast you can run demanding tasks.

Astra Ultrafast is currently exclusive to Pro 500 among personal Pro plans. Buying extra credits on Plus, Pro 100, or Pro 200 does not unlock it.

2. What Is ChatGPT Pro 500, and What Do You Actually Get?

ChatGPT Pro 500 is OpenAI's new highest-usage personal Pro plan, priced at $500 per month.

Despite the much higher price, it is not a separate bundle filled with exclusive ChatGPT features. Pro 100 and Pro 200 already include many of the same tools and advanced capabilities.

The real upgrades are much simpler: more included usage and access to GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast.

2.1 Up to 25× the Usage of ChatGPT Plus

Pro 500 is positioned as the highest-usage personal Pro tier, with included usage at roughly 25 times the level of ChatGPT Plus.

That does not mean every ChatGPT feature suddenly gets a 25× message limit.

ChatGPT now uses several different usage pools. ChatGPT Work and Codex share plan-based usage, while models such as GPT-6 Pro in regular Chat can have separate message limits. How much a task consumes also depends on factors such as the model, context length, output length, reasoning effort, and speed mode.

It is better to think of Pro 500 as giving you a much larger compute budget for heavy workloads rather than multiplying every ChatGPT limit by 25.

It is also not unlimited. If one specific model or feature is the only thing you occasionally run out of, the “25×” headline alone is not a good reason to jump straight to a $500 subscription.

2.2 GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast Is the Bigger Differentiator

The more distinctive Pro 500 feature is GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast.

Ultrafast is a lower-latency service tier built for heavier workloads in ChatGPT Work and Codex. Among personal plans, it is available only with Pro 500. Plus, Pro 100, and Pro 200 users cannot unlock it simply by purchasing extra credits.

There is a trade-off: Ultrafast burns through usage faster.

When it draws from your included subscription usage, GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast is charged against that allowance at 8× the Standard rate. When it uses purchased credits, it is charged at 6× the Standard GPT-6 Astra credit rate.

Those figures describe how quickly your allowance is consumed, not a guaranteed 8× or 6× speed increase.

That is the clearest way to understand Pro 500: you are paying for more compute headroom and the option to trade more of that usage for lower latency.

3. Pro 200 vs. Pro 500: Which One Makes More Sense?

If you compare Pro 500 with the old Pro 20X plan, the pricing can look awkward at first. The old plan offered around 20× Plus usage for $200, while Pro 500 costs $500 for roughly 25×.

But the old Pro 20X allowance is no longer the offer available to new subscribers. The practical comparison now is between the current Pro 200 and Pro 500.

Choose Pro 200 if you need more usage, not maximum speed

If you use ChatGPT, Codex, or Work heavily enough that lower tiers feel restrictive, but task latency is not slowing down your day, Pro 200 is the easier plan to justify.

Its included usage is lower than the old Pro 20X allowance, but the price remains $200 per month. For many users, it is mainly a way to get more room for heavier workloads without paying for the top speed tier.

If you only run over your included usage occasionally, buying extra Credits may also be more flexible than committing to an additional $300 every month.

Choose Pro 500 if both usage and waiting time are becoming a problem

Pro 500 starts to make more sense when ChatGPT is already part of your daily production workflow.

If you regularly run large Codex jobs, long ChatGPT Work tasks, or complex agent workflows, and you are consistently hitting usage limits or losing time waiting for tasks to finish, the extra capacity and Ultrafast access can have a clearer practical value.

For more typical use cases such as writing, research, translation, everyday chat, or occasional Codex sessions, the difference is much harder to justify at $500 per month.

4. ChatGPT Plan Usage Is Starting to Work Outside ChatGPT

One of the quieter DevDay announcements may end up changing how people think about ChatGPT subscriptions: Sign in with ChatGPT.

At the basic level, it works much like “Sign in with Google.” You can use your ChatGPT identity to create or access an account on supported third-party apps.

But some participating tools go a step further. Eligible Plus and Pro users can let those apps use their existing ChatGPT plan usage or available Credits for supported AI requests, without setting up a separate OpenAI API key.

Current examples include tools such as Devin, Notion, Vercel, Warp, and Amp. Support varies by app: some offer ChatGPT sign-in only, while others also support plan usage.

That usage is not a free bonus. Eligible requests count against your existing ChatGPT plan, and users can manage or limit how much each connected app can use from ChatGPT settings.

This is not a Pro 500-only feature. Eligible Plus and Pro users can use it in supported apps. Still, the feature gives higher-usage plans such as Pro 200 and Pro 500 another place to spend their included capacity.

For now, the partner list is still relatively small, and there is no reason to upgrade to Pro 500 just for third-party access. But if more developer tools and productivity apps adopt ChatGPT plan usage, the value of a Pro subscription may eventually depend on more than what you can do inside ChatGPT itself.
